Fall Hair Makeover: Tips for Preserving Color
Thomas
Moore once wrote “All that’s bright must fade,” we wonder if he colored his
hair too…
In
reality, we are all looking for that magic formula to keep our hair color
vibrant and lasting as long as possible (especially all of us faux redheads out
there). There are many tips and tricks we can try at home to extend the life of our color, but in addition to that there are things a stylist can do starting at the chair, that not only
guarantee a longer lasting vibrant hair color,
but your client’s heart as well. We
did just that at Salon Olez.

How To: Upside Down French Braid Updo with Bow Bun

The Cupcake Hair Style
The Cupcake Look
Not to make you guys hungry! But this is the cupcake inspired look of the week:) The top half of this style is in the shape of a cupcake icing swirl. So how exactly is this look achieved? Simple, this is a three strand braid starting at the crown and rotating
around and around in a circular motion while adding hair to one of the three
strands of the braid. The rotating motion is repeated until you have reached the hairline, or in this case with
some pieces in the perimeter which were left down and secured with a coiling
technique.

Twisted Up-do With O2 Detox
Our model Carol had lots! and I mean lots of heavy hair. To began her hair style we started off with an O2 treatment "Detox for Hair and Scalp". Detoxing her hair got rid of years of build up from styling products and the elements around her. The end result was a lighter hair to work with, and a healthier and shinier canvas to work into an incredible hair style.

How to Create a Fishtail Pompadour and French Twist Without Pins! by Olez®
Fishtail Pompadour |

In an editorial styling segment at Premiere Orlando 2013, Olez® showed class members advanced long hair dressing techniques that will make your client’s feel runway ready. One of the examples, was how to create a very simple “fishtail pompadour.”
To get the look, simply fishtail braid the top of the head, secure the end with an elastic. To get the pomp, lift the fishtail off the base of the head, and pushed it upwards to create height. (Watch the first minute of the video for the visual how-to steps.) This simple technique creates height with a neat texture! You can do the fishtail braid in the crown, the back of the head, or you can do it on the sides (if you're daring!)
After the pompadour, Olez® explains how to create a French Twist using ZERO pins!
After creating the fishtail braid pompadour, make a shoelace knot, by taking hair from both sides of the head. With a general French Twist it involves a lot of tweezing, combing over and using hair pins. This style requires zero pins.
On the left side of the head, twist a large section of hair counterclockwise. "Keep a little 'hair tread' in the center that you will later on use to stitch the two sides together," Olez's stylist says. Then, move to the right side of the head, take a large section and twist it counterclockwise.
"When you do the second side, make sure you leave a gap, because if it’s flush you won’t be able to tighten it up," says stylist. After you have created your two rolls on each side of the head, take the “hair thread” and stitch the two sides together. "This technique is much easier than using 100 pins!"

How is your client going to get this undone at home? If you started stitching together the style at the bottom, tell them to start unraveling at the bottom. If you started the stitching at the top, then advise them to start from the top. It’s just like a shoelace, says stylist. “Just imagine if you did this style to someone at the make-up counter at the mall, I guarantee you every time she turns around someone is going to ask her where she got her hair done. Give her some of your business cards, and I guarantee you, you will get clients.

Silky Smooth With Olez Advanced
If your client comes in with frizzy, unmanageable hair but doesn't want to suffer from the harmful fumes created by keratin products containing formaldehyde, then Olez Advanced is the way to go. This 2 step smoothing system is designed with the stylist in mind; leaving the hair silky, smooth, and stronger. This month we had the opportunity to do some great demos with our in-house stylist Ashley. Lets take a look at the step by step process for Olez Advanced, and the before and after results on our model's hair.

1. Shampoo Hair Twice with Olez Clarifying, Step 1
Shampoo hair twice. Rinse while combing hair with fingers or a wide tooth comb to avoid tangling.
Note: Do not vigorously rub onto hair or scalp in order to avoid tangling hair.

2. Towel Dry
Towel dry the hair, leaving it slightly moist.
Then separate hair into 3-4 parts using hair clips.

Step 2 to Hair
Wearing gloves, spray the Smoothing Solution, step 2, onto small parts, starting from the back of the head.
Note: Avoid spraying the product directly on the scalp. Spray Smoothing Solution 1/4 inch from the
roots using a fine tooth comb to distribute the product evenly from roots to ends.

4. Processing Time
After completing application allow the Smoothing Solution Step 2 to sit in hair for an additional 40-45 minutes for processing. (45 minutes for coarse and/or rebellious curls)
5. Shampoo Hair
Shampoo hair with Olez Clarifying Deep Cleanser, Step 1, removing all of step 2 before blow-drying.

Remove gloves and blow dry hair 100% dry. Use your fingers or a wide tooth comb to separate the hair to ensure all layers are dried thoroughly.
7. Seal Hair with Flat Iron

Note: Flat iron must be at a temperature of 400°-450°F, (200°-230°C)
Separate the hair and begin flat ironing approx. 1"-2" sections until hair feels light. Repeat process until entire hair is
straightened.
Note: You may see steam while flat ironing hair.
After Care Tips For Your Clients:
- Always blow dry the hair after each shampoo to maintain the best results.
- We recommend using Olez Inception Shampoo and Conditioner, both are paraben-free,salt-free and sulfate-free, when shampooing hair.
- We recommend coloring of the hair before treatment.
- Minimize contact with chlorine or salt water to enhance the duration of treatment.

The Perfect Blow-Dry
Blow drying hair may seem simple enough, but in fact there are wrong ways to do this which can result in damaging locks and an uneven frizzy look. Before we get into the "right way" to achieve a perfect blow-dry, let's take a look at some of the things to keep in mind before starting.
Consider the following:
Brush type: The metal varieties heat up way too fast, making hair way too hot. Look for a round brush with a mix of nylon and boar bristles.
Holding the dryer in place: Do not! Hold the dryer on one spot directly on the hair, you will do serious damage and can even fry the hair right off. Always keep a constant movement.
Tips by Edward Teitel, celebrity hair stylist and Olez Creative Director!
1. Start with an amazing prep treatment such as Olez 02 Detox to get the
product and chemical buildup off the hair. This will give you a great clean
feel, extra shine, manageability and control.
2. Methodically dry hair, section by section with control and tension on the
strand using a round brush and a blow dryer with a directional funnel.
The brush will give tension while the nozzle directs the air flow into the
right concentration resulting in smoothing and polishing the cuticles
down.
3. If you see hair being blown all around with the dryer, stop. This will cause
the hair to be rougher, not as shiny, and you'll have to refinish with another
tool such as a flatiron.
4. The end result should always be more important than speed drying
haphazardly. So take strands section by section with control.
5. Put brush on top for closer flatter looks and underneath for styles with
a lot of volume.
